When we built our home in South Nags Head eighteen years ago we gave little thought to climbing eighteen steps from the ground to the living floor of our one story house on pilings multiple times a day. Two years ago (and sixteen years older), we decided that we would plan to “age in place” in this home. To that end we examined the options to overcome the impediment of all those steps. With their advice and assistance in recommending a “turn-key” contractor familiar with their home elevators, in short order we were enjoying the comfort and peace of mind of having conquered the steps. Whether it is luggage, groceries, or an occasional disabled guest, our home elevator makes it easy and convenient. Sure, we still use the steps several times a day; up and down to walk the dog, go to the beach or use our ground-level workshop or pool, however, we know that should we need assistance for ourselves in the future, our wheelchair accessible elevator is ready and waiting. We purchased a rental property in the Salvo area in 2009. The property came equipped with an elevator. Because of frequent problems with the unit during the first rental season, we wanted to arrange a service contract with the installer’s representative in the area. Through many failed attempts to arrange contact, we elected to have Outer Banks Elevator come in and do an evaluation of the unit and give us some advice on what needed to be done to improve the reliability of the unit. Wayne came to the house and spent a considerable amount of time evaluating the current system and then sat down with us to give us his opinion and recommendations. He was extremely thorough in this evaluation and explanations and as a result of the confidence he inspired, we elected to do a major overhaul of the system and a changeover of the controls so that he could maintain it properly. His team came in and performed the work along with some additional enhancements which provided an added level of security. Not only did they complete the work very quickly and efficiently but I was extremely impressed with how neat and clean the work area was when they finished. We have now been through two rental seasons and to this date the elevator has performed flawlessly. We initiated the annual inspection which was recommended and as a result, we have experienced no major repairs during this time.

Following Hurricane Irene in 2011, we did have some significant damage which needed repair. Very soon after the storm, they were able to assess the damage and provided us with an estimate of the needed work. Not only did they provide quick service to get the unit running again, but also provided the insurance adjuster with the necessary information to enable us to receive our reimbursement in a timely fashion.
